Aksharabhyasam is the traditional ceremony marking a child's introduction to the world of letters and learning. Usually performed when the child is 3-5 years old, this ritual invokes the blessings of Goddess Saraswati for wisdom and knowledge. The child writes their first letters (usually 'Om' or 'Sri') on a plate of rice, guided by the purohit and family elders.
